Phish Love: Happy Birthday, Page McConnell!

Happy 50th birthday to one of our very favorite piano men, Page McConnell! The Phish keyboardist is the driving force behind some of the best jazzy jams we’ve ever heard, and we hope he’s celebrating his birthday in style!

Here in the Mexicali office (we’ve got a couple of BIG Page fans here), we are trying to pick our favorite Page song, debating between the jams in Lizards, Fluff’s Travels, Suzy Greenberg, or maybe lounge-singer Page crooning Lawnboy? Oh man, we just can’t choose, so we had one of our resident Phish heads make a rad playlist of her favorite Page tunes:

What’s your favorite Page song or song featuring an awesome Page jam?

Music We Love: Phish! PLUS PhishHead Playlists

Did you know that this year is Phish’s 30th anniversary? This means that they have now been playing as long as the Grateful Dead did with Jerry (1965 to 1995)! In 1983, they made their debut performance in the cafeteria of the University of Vermont. The band was short on equipment, so a hockey stick was used as a microphone stand, and the first song they played was a cover of “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress” by the Hollies.

It’s pretty hard for us to listen to Phish without bopping around, singing along, and smiling wide.  Their unique brand of jamtastic pop-rock-funk magic is just the thing to brighten up even the greyest and gloomiest of days! Check out this playlist of some of their awesome live songs:

AND a BONUS playlist with some super rad performances from “The Olden Days” (not really, but relatively speaking):
